April & May TBR

Having a look at what is in my ‘To Be Read’ pile.

I feel like I always have a never ended pile of books that I keep adding to. This month I have decided to write a list and put my next two months’ worth of reading together as we are nearly half way through April at the moment so I’m a bit behind. I go on holiday to Dubrovnik at the beginning of May (has anyone been?) so I am hoping to get through a few books then!

So here is my probably quite optimistic lists of reads for April & May:

The Cartel by Don Winslow

I picked this book up sometime last year when it was Waterstones book of the month so it was half price. I first saw it, like many of the books I decide to buy, reviewed in Heat magazine and I liked the sound of it. As a fan of crime novels, CSI, etc. this book about the Mexican cartel sounds like it will be my sort of thing.

A true-to-life epic about the Mexican-American drug wars. The leader of the world’s most powerful cartel Adan Barrera has murdered the family of DEA agent Art Keller. Once Barrera is released from prison and starts to rebuild his cartel, Keller unable to live in a world with Barrera in it, goes on a 10-year odyssey to take him down.

The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield

This is the newest addition to my ‘To Be Read’ pile. Another recommendation from work, this book was recently given to me. The two other ladies in my office have read it and have both enjoyed it so it’s one that I am looking forward to reading and from the sound of the blurb, not something I would usually pick.

Margaret Lea begin investigating the abandoned Angelfield House, once home to the March family. As she digs deeper, she finds connection between the house and her own life.

A Year and a Day by Isabelle Broom

Again another one I saw reviewed in Heat magazine, this time around Christmas time. I purchased it from Amazon at the start of this year and it has sat unread on my coffee table ever since. It’s about Prague, a place I have wanted to visit for some time now which I think was the appeal.

About three different women, Megan, Hope and Sophie, with three intertwining love stories all based in Prague.

One Day by David Nicholls

As you can see from the picture I picked up this title for £1 at a local charity shop. Having not read the book and heard good reviews about it, at the low price and being for a good cause I picked it up. It was so long again that I can’t even remember which year I brought this book. In an attempt to make myself read it I’ve taken it into work, where it is now sitting next to my desk rather than on my book shelf.

Having lent it to one of the ladies I work with, she has now returned it and raved about it so I am going to try and get this book read this month!

After meeting for the first time the night of their graduation, Emma and Dexter meet on the same day every year, I imagine for the rest of their lives or until something happens to either of them. I love the idea of this book and I’m interested to read it when I get the time!

A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen

Another book on the list which has been transferred into a film (can you see where I got the idea for my podcast from now?). Lent to me by my boyfriend’s mum this is one that I am aiming to read in the near future.

It’s based on the real life story of the author James Bowen adopting an injured street cat while he himself was living on the streets. Slowly healing Bob back to health, the two change each other’s lives.

To add more lists to my never ending TBR pile, I am also hoping to receive a few new titles for my birthday so I will have (hopefully) this selection of books to get through too.
